For the second year at Just Write For Kids Australia, we offered an opportunity for author-illustrators of children’s books to submit a piece to our Picture It! Anthology Call-Out. The theme for this year was ‘LOST’, where artists were to interpret the metaphor in their own imagining, and incorporate our two new loveable characters, Walter and Scout. The brief was to create a combined illustration and text component that portrayed emotion, surprise and art elements in their chosen scene. And no surprise, the submissions have been so wonderfully imaginative!

In our deliberations, the judging panel carefully considered each piece for its artistic techniques, interesting use of perspective and composition, storytelling ability and how all the pages will work as a collaboration. We thank everyone for their patience throughout this long process, and we congratulate all the artists for their amazing efforts – ALL of the entries were absolutely remarkable!

As a community, we are proud to continue to raise donations for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, as we did last year. Donated funds and a percentage of sale proceeds from book sales will be forwarded to this national charity – helping to support literacy and language resources for remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

HUGE thanks once again to our expert team for your meticulous work in helping to put this gorgeous creation together:
